2025 Fixtures
Friday 15th August at Girton
Bracing themselves for another scorching day in the 4th heatwave of the year, our team of 16 turned out to play against Cambs & Hunts at Girton GC. An extremely competitive 4BBB match took place, many of which went down to the 'wire'. We had a very warm welcome from the C&H ladies and although there were some unforeseen last minute challenges with regards to reserves, we fielded a full team.
The course was extremely hot, dry and somewhat dusty but given that the Girton area has water restrictions due to the weather, it held up pretty well.
Due to the dogged determination and competitiveness of the two teams, the rounds were quite long and towards the end ladies were beginning to flag a bit in the heat. However, Herts ladies turned in a great result beating C&H 4.5 to 3.5. Well done ladies!
Everyone was thankful to sit down to a welcome supper of scampi and chips (what a treat!) before embarking on the long trip home.
Thank you to Captain of the day, Suzanne Carey, and everyone who played especially the reserves.
That concludes our fixture list for this season. Our thanks go to Suzanne Carey and Laura Blight for organising everything this year. Suzanne leaves the Committee at the 2025 AGM. Well done Sue for all your hard work in organising the games - great job!
If you would like to take part in any of our Friendlies, watch out for details towards the end of the year. Applications are due in by 31st MARCH 2026.
Thursday 31st July at Chesfield Downs
Everyone arrived early to play our friendly at Chesfield Downs with Bedfordshire. The weather forecast wasn't great with thunderstorms and rain predicted. The course was in excellent condition, the weather improved with the sun coming out and no rain in sight. There were 8 teams with 2 ladies from each county in a team with the best 2 scores to count.
The scores were very close with the winners coming in with 94 beating the runners up on countback.
Winners: Suzanne Carey, Sarah Staines, Hilary Pearmain and Lesley Harris
Runners Up: Christine Hutchings, Alison Ellis, Dawn French and Hilary Denny.
Well done and thank you to all the ladies who played and for everyone's continued support for the friendlies. Chesfield Downs came up trumps looking after us really well.
Monday 30th June at Bentley GC
At the time, this day was the hottest of the year so far and our friendly match was held at Bentley GC with the ladies from Essex. The Herts team of 16 braved the extreme heat to play 3 scores to count with 2 ladies from each county in a team.
Two teams tied on 123 points - Jae Percival, Lesley Carter, Mo Devonish and Dot Greeves winning on countback from Jan Olson-Williams, Barbara Cooke, Maria Kelly and Sandy Grant.
We were well looked after from the time of arrival until we all headed home very hot and weary after a lovely meal. Thanks to everyone who played. Captain of the day: Laura Blight.
Monday 19th May saw 12 Hertfordshire ladies pairing up with 12 Buckinghamshire ladies at Harpenden Common hosted by Laura Blight who was the Herts Captain of the day.
It was agreed by the two Captains to play a friendly 2 scores to count off full playing handicap. Great fun was had by all!
The greens were slick and tricky but not so for one team of Val Morrison, Sue Roberts, Lin Ives and Sue Roper who came into win
with an amazing 95 points! Well done ladies!
BEDFORDSHIRE FRIENDLY at THE MILLBROOK 19th AUGUST 2024
A resounding win (5-0) for Hertfordshire Ladies against Bedfordshire on a somewhat 'quirky' and 'mountainous' course in dry but windy conditions more akin to Autumn than the hot summer days of recent weeks. 5 teams played pairs matchplay with some excellent golf and scores being recorded. A couple of long range birdie putts were reported in more than one game matched only by the broad smiles that accompanied them. Bedfordshire ladies took their loss in good spirits and judging by the loud chatter and laughs over the post match meal, there were no hard feelings. No doubt Bedfordshire will be keen to get their revenge next year! Well done (as always) to our Friendlies Secretary, Suzanne for all her hard work in putting on such an enjoyable event.
CAMBS & HUNTS FRIENDLY at EAST HERTS 5th AUGUST
8 teams played a 4bbb team game with 2 ladies from each county.
The winning team was Val Morrison, Sarah Staines (Herts), May Burn and Liz Smith (Cambs & Hunts). NTP on the 7th was won by Debbie Osman (Herts).
Everyone enjoyed the day; the course was in excellent condition and the food enjoyable. Thanks to Di Tass for compiling the results.
ESSEX FRIENDLY at THE HERTFORDSHIRE 17th JUNE
At long last, the sun decided to make an appearance and we had a very warm, dry day. After all the truly awful weather of recent
weeks, it made a very welcome change. Our format was teams of 4 (2 from Herts; 2 from Essex) and scores best 2 of 4 with all to
count on The Hertfordshire's taxing par 3's. The club looked after us extremely well providing a fabulous summer buffet for our post match meal. The winning team benefitted from some local knowledge provided by organiser Suzanne Carey who was joined by Lesley Carter together with Essex ladies, Barbara Church and Angie Jones.
