The Summer Meeting at East Herts went extremely well with a bigger than average

SPRING MEETING : HARPENDEN COMMON - 28th APRIL 2025

88 members enjoyed a warm welcome at Harpenden Common for the first meeting of the year.  Together with another 23 ladies who attended the President's Lunch (see under News).  Thankfully

the weather was kind which made for a pleasant change after the very wet weeks beforehand.

The HLGCS flag flew proudly as teams battled for the coveted Spring Meeting trophy.

The newly minted Society ball markers were well received and are a special memento for Society members.

Our new recruit - Dino (Tass) - made his/her/its first appearance in one of Harpenden's Bunkers and

not surprisingly was a great hit with all who either aimed for, mis-hit or simply were unlucky to land

in the sand alongside him/her/it.  There were so many candidates for the Dino prize that Captain Di had to do a draw for the winner!  We're sure that Dino-Tass will be appearing again on a golf course near you over the coming months!  Thank you to all who played and lunched on the day and to the staff at

Harpenden Common for making us so welcome.

Winners of the Brookmans Bowl were:

Laura Blight (Brickendon), Deb Newton (Hanbury Manor),

Ali Horne (Brickendon), Clare Mallins (Essendon)

Well done ladies!

SUMMER MEETING  : Enfield 8th July

CLICK HERE for full report & photos

64 HLGCS members (from 12 clubs) turned out to play at Enfield for the Summer Meeting hoping for some long-awaited warmth and sunshine.  Thankfully, there were some sunny intervals punctuated only by periods of light drizzle rather than the torrential downpours of the previous few days.  It was fairly warm early on but the weather turned rather humid which inevitably meant various wardrobe changes throughout the day to add to the usual challenge of playing golf!

The course was interesting especially for those first timers who may have found parts of it challenging in terms of long carries, tricky par 3’s and a rather irritating cross stream/ditch that appeared at regular intervals throughout the round.  Friendly foxes followed golfers around the course obviously on the lookout for random titbits from Captain Sue’s ‘goody bags’ of crisps and chocolate bars. Hopefully nobody was tempted to feed them Bacon Rashers or Onion Rings!  The charity raffle raised just under £200 for Herts Vision Loss.  Thank you to all who supported.

Winners of the Queen Elizabeth II Salver: Anne Kapoor, Simmi Ciccone, Sue Sumners & Gill Loftus    (Hadley Wood)

     Spring Meeting & President’s Lunch 22nd April 2024 : Brickendon Golf Club

The President’s lunch was hosted by Barbara Cooke for 15 ladies, some of whom had driven many miles and all had an enjoyable, chatty lunch.

The Spring Meeting saw a field of 64 golfers face quite a challenge; it was a chilly day, the greens were running fast and the scores reflected the difficulty of the course set up.

Captain Sue organised a putting competition aimed at raising awareness of the difficulties caused by various eyesight disorders and to raise funds for the charity Herts Vision Loss. The raffle and competition raised over £300 due to the fine generosity of our ladies. After play we all enjoyed a very welcome and tasty dinner with lots of conversation.

Captain's Away Break at Greetham Valley 2023

41 ladies drove to Greetham Valley for our annual away break, some arriving the night before to check out the greens!

Monday 5th June was President’s Day.  Judith had organised the cards.  It was a team game, one scoring on the par 5's, two on the 4's and three on the 3's.  We had lots of prizes, two NP which were both won by Liz Sargent!

Tuesday 6th was Captain’s day.  Again team games; two scores on par4's and 5's, and all scores on the par 3's.  The first day we played the Lakes Course, the second day the Valley and we all decided that they should be renamed as the Valley has more water!

The weather was chilly, but the atmosphere was warm.  There were lots of smiling faces and it was lovely to see people mixing and making new friends.

On the Wednesday some ladies played nine holes before setting off home.  Those who left would have been disappointed as the weather got slowly warmer!

I had lots of help from Judith and Geraldine our local expert, and Sue Burbidge made sure we stayed within our allocation of wine.

Thank you ladies for being so positive and generous with your comments and for the gift !
